GACC June Dinner

GACC Monthly Meeting Notice - June 2022

Join us on Saturday, June 18 at 6pm for our monthly meeting – Gattuso’s Restaurant is providing the supper and for course we will also have German beer and wine as well as our baked pretzels. The guest speaker will be Don Costello, president of the Algiers Historical Society, who will speak about Germans in historic Algiers.

Learn About the Algiers Germans

What is the history of citizens with German ancestry in Algiers, Louisiana? At the June 18, 2022, meeting of the German-American Cultural Center in Gretna, Don Costello will answer that question.

The West Bank community of Algiers is a short distance from Gretna, which was founded by German immigrants. Costello is highly qualified to discuss the topic of Germans in Algiers history – he is president of the Algiers Historical Society. A native of Algiers, he also is a certified historic preservationist, holds a certificate in historic preservation from the University of New Orleans and served as special projects coordinator for the Vieux Carre Commission from 1990 to 2005.

Costello also is a retired U.S. Air Force officer and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration.

He will speak to GACC members at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at the center, 519 Huey P. Long Avenue.
