Say ‘Prost’ at Gretna Fest

GACC German Bier Garten at the Gretna Fest - Two Men Enjoying Beers

At 5 p.m. on Friday, October 6, Gretna officials will tap the first beer keg to kick off Gretna Fest. The celebration will be – where else? – at the Fest’s German Bier Garten hosted by the German-American Cultural Center.

That will open a busy weekend in Gretna for the festival, being held from 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, and 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 8. Several stages will feature all kinds of musical performances, along with craft booths and many different food choices.

The Bier Garten will be located on Huey P. Long Avenue, between Second and Third Streets — just look for the white lattice-work entrance and the Oktoberfest flags that will welcome visitors. A team of GACC members and volunteers will be on hand to serve grilled brats, served either on a stick or in a bun, with or without the center’s homemade sauerkraut.

And there will be four different kinds of German beer on tap, including both Warsteiner Pilsner, for a lighter taste, and Dunkel, a delicious dark beer.
